Striking and attractive rock formations in the cliffs near Risney […] The coast is exposed to a south westerly swell which when big will affect the whole of the coast. Also very exposed to easterly and south easterly winds. The effect of the swell lessens towards Penzance particularly past Marazion. There are not any strong tidal flows on this part of the coast.

The coast between Gwennap Head and [Sennen Cove], taking in Longships Reef is now one of the most spectacular sections of coastline I have ever seen; you are open to the full fetch of the Atlantic Ocean and as the rolling swells meets the Cornish coast it becomes a vibrant place with a very good chance that you will spot dolphins, basking sharks or even the occasional whale and there are several haul outs for the local seal population.
