Cornwall has more coastline than any other county in the UK and subsequently can boast a plethora of picturesque coves, fishing harbours and some of the finest scenery in the world. To the east of the Land's End Peninsula lies the Porthcurno valley and its stunning crescent shaped beach which has been voted as one of the ten best beaches in the world in a recent Sunday Times survey. A stay in one of our Porthcurno cottages will give you easy access to this wonderful beach, as well as a plethora of other things to do in the are.
The valley is still owned by global communications giant Cable & Wireless and up until the early 70's and 80's was host to the largest amount of transatlantic cables in the world. As far back as the Second World War, all global communications for the UK came into the valley and Porthcurno played a vital role in securing final victory over the Germans. The original underground Telegraph Station has been completely preserved and continues to attract thousands of visitors every year.
The area is also host to one of the most famous thespian arenas in the world, the Minack Theatre which has been hewn from granite and sits in a wonderful position on the very edge of the mighty cliffs. Visitors can sit and watch a variety of plays, operas and musicals and enjoy the legendary sunsets as one of the most breathtaking backdrops in the world.
Visitors to this magical part of the UK can join the South West Coastal Path and enjoy an array of cliff and coastal walks that lead from Porthcurno. Westward to Lands End and eastwards to the Logan Rock and also the quaint and picturesque fishing village of Mousehole which Dylan Thomas said was the prettiest village in England having spent part of his honeymoon in the village. Situated near by, you can also find a fantastic selection of small coves and beaches including Gwenver, Nanjizel, Ped-n-Vounder and Sennen which represent the finest that this spectacular coastline has to offer.
