NEW FOR 2012
"A stunning apartment with breathtaking views overlooking one of the top ten beaches in the world” is certainly not an understatement – more of a fact! Porthcurno and Pedn-Vounder beaches combine to create one of the most photographed views in Cornwall and a location which has been consistently voted by travel journalists as featuring one of the best beaches in the world. Ocean View is a luxurious, two bedroom apartment which is perched on the very top of the cliffs overlooking this iconic vista and available for rent throughout the year. Whether you are enjoying a morning cup of coffee in the sun on the balcony or warm and snug in the depths of winter, this beautifully appointed, light and sunny property will certainly not disappoint whatever the season. One of several newly constructed apartments, Ocean View is one of the larger units and furnished in a bright and refreshing modern style with crisp white decoration throughout. Guests also benefit from under floor heating, en-suite facilities, Parking for one car and additional visitor parking, a fabulous BBQ area and those glorious unrestricted views of the beach, the famous Logan Rock and the sparkling blue Atlantic Ocean beyond! For Thespians, the apartment is only 500 yards from the world famous Minack Theatre which has been hewn from the granite cliff face and offers a wide range of productions during the summer months – not to mention the stunning sunsets. For those active guests, the South West Coastal Path is also just a five minute walk from the apartment. The valley was formerly owned by Cable & Wireless and at one time, the Porthcurno cable office operated as many as 14 cables simultaneously, for a time becoming the largest submarine cable station in the world. Today, you can still visit the old social club which is now the Cable Station Inn and serves good local produce and Cornish Ales. There is also a post office and stores, tennis courts and a small café (200 yards from the apartment) which serves lovely cream teas and sublime crab sandwiches. On a rainy day, The Telegraph Museum is a “must visit” for boys (and Dads!). Considered to be a critical communications centre during the Second World War, it is a living museum deep underground and consists of a series of tunnels and operation rooms frozen in time.

Please note:
The beautiful Porthcurno Valley with its stunning Pedn-Vounder beach is world famous for three major reasons. The entire valley was once owned by global telecommunications giant Cable & Wireless Ltd and more transatlantic cables came ashore here than any other destination in the world. As you descend into the valley, you will be able to see the many large houses that formed the corporate offices which have now been turned into residential and holiday homes. In fact the Cable Station Inn was the former Social Club!
The world Famous Minack Theatre sits precariously on the very cliff edge and is real testimony to the sheer grit and determination of the founder Rowena Cade who personally and almost single handily, carved this stunning theatre from the granite cliffs over a 30 year period from 1929 until her retirement in 1993. She regularly dug sand from the beach and carried it up the cliffs on her back in a self made rucksack. At one time after a massive storm and wreck, Rowena Cade personally carried twelve 15ft timber beams up from the beach to the site of the theatre. Today the 750 seater open air auditorium with gallery, cafe and museum attracts visitors from all over the world to experience a summer season of plays in this truly unique setting.
As a major cable station and with direct links to Churchill's war rooms in London, Porthcurno was an obvious enemy target during the Second World War and so tunnels were cut into the cliffs by local tin miners and the communications operations were moved inside. The underground tunnel took ten months to complete and was fully equipped with a power plant and blast-proof doors. Today the tunnel and the equipment have all been preserved and the museum is a fascinating insight into wartime communications and the major part that Porthcurno played in winning the war.
Fantastic place to stay, vewry well equipped and all on the doorstep on a lovely beach.
