St Ives Feast & Hurling the Silver Ball

Experience a taste of ancient Cornish culture by attending the anticipated St Ives Feast and Hurling the Silver Ball, which this year falls on 4th February and looks set to deliver a lively day of entertainment for anyone visiting the impossibly scenic seaside town.

The annual event commemorates the consecration of the Parish Church of St Eia in 1434 and features a unique and ancient form of rugby, along with array of other spectacles and events.

Expect everything from musical performances and processions to the historic hurling itself, as the day kicks off with the mayor’s civic procession for the blessing at St Ia Well near Porthmeor Beach, followed by the hurling shenanigans around town, culminating in the victor being awarded with a silver coin at the stroke of midday on the steps of St Ives Guildhall.

And with some competitors even diving into the ocean to escape with the coveted ball, it looks set to deliver an exciting day of happenings for anyone in St Ives this February.
