As spring draws ever closer, February presents a host of highlights for the entire family, from half-term fun to an eclectic rage of other happenings across west Cornwall.
The much-anticipated annual St Ives Feast and Hurling the Silver Ball falls on Monday 5th February, where visitors to the stunning seaside town can watch the ancient form of rugby and join in with the historic celebrations in commemoration of the consecration of the Parish Church of St Eia in 1434.
Enjoy a constant schedule of musical performances, along with processions of schoolchildren and townspeople adorned with ivy to represent the patron saint of St Eia. Then there’s the hurling spectacle itself, where the victor that maintains possession of the ball in order to return it to the Mayor at noon on the steps of St Ives Guildhall will receive a silver coin.
For half-term entertainment (12th-16th February) with an outdoors twist, there’s Family Storytelling Walks at Godolphin House (11th-17th February), and Fun Feb Fitness Trail and Half-Term Seed Planting (11th-18th February) at Trengwainton Garden.
And for art and literature lovers, Virginia Woolf at Tate St Ives (10th February-29th April) promises a fascinating portrait and exploration of the writer by various artworks inspired by the extraordinary author’s life and works.<< Back to articles
