Rosie's Cottage - Mousehole

  • Overview

    Overview

Just imagine that you are sitting in the early morning sunshine on a gorgeous flower filled patio high above the picturesque little fishing harbour of Mousehole and gazing out over the azure blue Atlantic Ocean beyond – well imagine no more – you can! Rosie’s Cottage is a beautifully appointed granite cottage which is perched high above this traditional Cornish seafaring village and commands one of the finest 180 panoramic views in the whole of West Cornwall. Completely renovated for the 2012 season, this stunning little granite property delivers on every aspect of a holiday home whether you are deciding on which of the three patio areas to sunbathe, reading that well earned book in the beautiful and light rear conservatory or just snuggling down in front of the crackling wood burning stove as the winter gales screech in off the Atlantic! Despite the fact that the cottage was only built less than 30 years ago, it is bursting with old world charm and  character and gives the impression that it could be over 100 years old. Painted and carved beams on the ceilings, stable doors, pretty cushioned window seats and wooden shutters on most of the windows complete the stylish and quality internal appointment. Decorated throughout in a neutral palette and furnished to a very comfortable standard, Rosie’s Cottage really does exude a warm welcome at any time of the year. Another additional benefit to this beautiful little cottage is yet another patio area to the rear of the property which catches the afternoon sun and is therefore perfect for that Cornish cream tea with mountains of clotted cream. This raised area affords even more spectacular views across Mount’s Bay, St Michael’s Mount and the Lizard Peninsula in the distance. Mousehole is one of the finest examples of a picturesque Cornish fishing village with its labyrinth of tiny alleyways and little lanes which hide a plethora of galleries and craft shops just waiting to be discovered. The village is quickly gaining an enviable reputation for fine dining with three exceptionally good restaurants serving some of the finest fresh fish and seafood in the world. Rosie’s Cottage is a very pretty cottage which will deliver on all fronts but you will have to be quick as it will not be a secret for too long!

With a profusion of narrow streets, donkey wide alleys and history at every turn, Mousehole is the epitome of a picturesque Cornish fishing village in a simply stunning setting. In fact Dylan Thomas who spent much of his honeymoon in the village described Mousehole as the prettiest village in all England.
Located just three miles westward from Penzance on the curve of Mounts Bay, the village is centred around an almost completely circular harbour with a small and truly charming beach which always proves popular with families, particularly those with small children.
Mousehole has largely resisted modern day trappings and remains unspoiled by 21st century developments. Working fishing boats still ply their trade from the harbour which is protected from the might of the Atlantic by two sturdy breakwaters, (Cornwall’s earliest and begun in 1393) and today are accompanied by visiting yachts and pleasure craft, making the panorama of the harbour truly peaceful and idyllic.
The village itself is a veritable maze of granite and slate cottages, winding narrow streets and cobbled alleyways which have a magic and mystery all of their own amd just waiting to be explored. Virtually unchanged by time, its natural beauty and charm still attracts many artists, drawn by its unique atmosphere and beautiful light.
The famous National Trust cliff walk round the Land’s End Peninsula starts at Mousehole. One of its most beautiful stretches is south from the village to Lamorna Cove and the Coastal Footpath continues towards Penberth and Porthcurno. The whole walk is full of breathtaking scenery and the immediate and surrounding coastline is officially designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ by the National Trust.

Mousehole has a fine selection of craft and gift shops and small art galleries and in addition to some excellent pubs and restaurants (which serve the freshest fish you will ever enjoy, landed and delivered daily from nearby Newlyn). There is an enviable choice of tearooms serving quite delicious Cornish cream teas with mountains of golden clotted cream and superb fresh crab sandwiches.
