Pretty, charming, elegant and full of character are the only words to adequately describe this former seafarer's cottage which has been recently refurbished to a very comfortable standard. Dating back over 160 years and steeped in local history, the aptly named Coastguard Cottage is one of five terraced properties located on the very edge of the village and yet only 60 metres walk from the bustling little harbour and child friendly beach. The major benefit of renting this property - and there are many - is the adjoining and well stocked little garden with lovely views over St. Clement's Isle and the Lizard Peninsula in the distance - perfect to while away the summer evenings as the BBQ sizzles! - Situated at the end of a donkey-wide pathway,Coastguard Cottage has been subtly decorated and furnished to provide light, airy and attractive accommodation. The result is an extremely well presented and cosy holiday home that is ideally suited to either a young family (due to the traffic free environment) or just for a couple that require sufficient space and the need to be alone!
Mousehole continues to attract visitors from all over the globe as it shrugs off the onslaught of the 21st century and battles to retain its infectious Cornish charm and traditional way of life as a working fishing village. Mousehole is ideally located to explore the stunning South West Peninsula and the many attractions that it has to offer including the world famous Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, the Artist’s enclave and popular resort of St. Ives, The Eden Project at St. Austell and the magical Isles of Scilly which are accessible from Penzance either via air or sea.

With a profusion of narrow streets, donkey wide alleys and history at every turn, Mousehole is the epitome of a picturesque Cornish fishing village in a simply stunning setting. In fact Dylan Thomas who spent much of his honeymoon in the village described Mousehole as the prettiest village in all England.
Located just three miles westward from Penzance on the curve of Mounts Bay, the village is centred around an almost completely circular harbour with a small and truly charming beach which always proves popular with families, particularly those with small children.
Mousehole has largely resisted modern day trappings and remains unspoiled by 21st century developments. Working fishing boats still ply their trade from the harbour which is protected from the might of the Atlantic by two sturdy breakwaters, (Cornwallâs earliest and begun in 1393) and today are accompanied by visiting yachts and pleasure craft, making the panorama of the harbour truly peaceful and idyllic.
The village itself is a veritable maze of granite and slate cottages, winding narrow streets and cobbled alleyways which have a magic and mystery all of their own amd just waiting to be explored. Virtually unchanged by time, its natural beauty and charm still attracts many artists, drawn by its unique atmosphere and beautiful light.
The famous National Trust cliff walk round the Landâs End Peninsula starts at Mousehole. One of its most beautiful stretches is south from the village to Lamorna Cove and the Coastal Footpath continues towards Penberth and Porthcurno. The whole walk is full of breathtaking scenery and the immediate and surrounding coastline is officially designated an âArea of Outstanding Natural Beautyâ by the National Trust.
Mousehole has a fine selection of craft and gift shops and small art galleries and in addition to some excellent pubs and restaurants (which serve the freshest fish you will ever enjoy, landed and delivered daily from nearby Newlyn). There is an enviable choice of tearooms serving quite delicious Cornish cream teas with mountains of golden clotted cream and superb fresh crab sandwiches.
