Harbour Edge - Mousehole

  • Overview

    Overview

Previously featured on Channel 4’s “A place by the Sea”, Harbour Edge is aptly named as this superbly appointed and luxurious Cornish property is literally perched right on the water's edge of one of the most picturesque and ancient little fishing harbours in Britain. The views from almost every window can only be described as stunning as you sit and view the ever changing canvas of daily nautical life in this quaint little crescent shaped haven which was once described by Dylan Thomas as the most beautiful village in England.

Light, bright and spacious, the all white decorative palette, the stylish internal appointment together with the elegant and colourful soft furnishings combine to give Harbour Edge an extremely warm and congenial welcome at any time of the year. The addition of a superior quality fitted kitchen with Rangemaster cooker and granite worktop, fully tiled and contemporary en suite bath and shower rooms to every bedroom complete the look to make this property a definitive all year round choice. Whether you are touring the spectacular west coast peninsula, taking a relaxing summer break or searching for a romantic weekend hideaway then Harbour Edge certainly has it all and will not disappoint.

During the summer months, you can step out of the front door and stroll down to the sandy little beach in the harbour in under one minute or during the depths of winter, you can sit all warm and snug in the lounge and watch the mighty Atlantic waves as they crash over the breakwater during the spectacular and frequent storms that lash this part of the Cornish coast. Mousehole is fast becoming a much acclaimed gastronomic destination with three outstanding restaurants in the village including 2 Fore St now owned by a former protégé of world acclaimed Michelin starred chef, Raymond Blanc. A perfect excuse for that last minute short break or out of season weekend! The village of Mousehole has changed very little over the centuries and still retains a tremendous amount of allure and charm. The plethora of donkey wide streets and hidden little alleyways dotted with shops and galleries are just waiting to be explored. Mousehole, and in particular Harbour Edge, is a fabulous destination at any time of the year.

With a profusion of narrow streets, donkey wide alleys and history at every turn, Mousehole is the epitome of a picturesque Cornish fishing village in a simply stunning setting. In fact Dylan Thomas who spent much of his honeymoon in the village described Mousehole as the prettiest village in all England.
Located just three miles westward from Penzance on the curve of Mounts Bay, the village is centred around an almost completely circular harbour with a small and truly charming beach which always proves popular with families, particularly those with small children.
Mousehole has largely resisted modern day trappings and remains unspoiled by 21st century developments. Working fishing boats still ply their trade from the harbour which is protected from the might of the Atlantic by two sturdy breakwaters, (Cornwall’s earliest and begun in 1393) and today are accompanied by visiting yachts and pleasure craft, making the panorama of the harbour truly peaceful and idyllic.
The village itself is a veritable maze of granite and slate cottages, winding narrow streets and cobbled alleyways which have a magic and mystery all of their own amd just waiting to be explored. Virtually unchanged by time, its natural beauty and charm still attracts many artists, drawn by its unique atmosphere and beautiful light.
The famous National Trust cliff walk round the Land’s End Peninsula starts at Mousehole. One of its most beautiful stretches is south from the village to Lamorna Cove and the Coastal Footpath continues towards Penberth and Porthcurno. The whole walk is full of breathtaking scenery and the immediate and surrounding coastline is officially designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ by the National Trust.

Mousehole has a fine selection of craft and gift shops and small art galleries and in addition to some excellent pubs and restaurants (which serve the freshest fish you will ever enjoy, landed and delivered daily from nearby Newlyn). There is an enviable choice of tearooms serving quite delicious Cornish cream teas with mountains of golden clotted cream and superb fresh crab sandwiches.
