Treen village is a beautiful little time capsule of a forgotten Cornish era. Relatively unchanged for hundreds of years, this pretty little enclave sits just behind the mighty headland of Treryn Dinas (an Iron Age promontory fort) that overlooks the Penberth Valley and Porthcurno Cove to the west. Until recently, visitors could walk up to the farm right in the centre of the village and buy a pint of warm unpasteurised milk and home made clotted cream! Our Treen cottages are perfect for your holiday in Cornwall. No matter the occasion, or time of year, we have the cottages in Cornwall that will be right for your holiday!
The village is world famous for the story of the Logan Rock (also the name of the great village pub) which despite being lost in the mists of folklore is based on actual fact. The Logan Rock is an 80 ton boulder that is perched right on the very edge of the cliffs and rumour has it that with very little pressure, the boulder would rock to and fro. In 1824, a shore party from the naval cutter HMS Nimble, led by Lt Goldsmith inextricably levered the rock and sent it crashing down to the beach below. The residents of West Cornwall were so annoyed that they lobbied the Navy to strip Lt Goldsmith of his commission unless he replaced the rock at his own cost. The rock was finally replaced at 4.20pm on Tuesday 2nd November 1824. The rock may have taken a few minutes to dislodge but the whole enterprise of replacing the rock took at least 60 men, almost SEVEN months to complete and at a personal cost to Lt Goldsmith of £134! Come by and see Logan rock for yourself when you stay in one of our cottages in Treen.
After visiting Logan rock, pop by the local pub, which dates back over 400 years and serves great locally sourced food and fine Cornish ales. It also has a wonderful collection of cricket memorabilia in the rear snug. Well worth a visit!
