Cove Cottage - Cape Cornwall

  • Overview

    Overview

NEW -  The location of this beautifully appointed fisherman's cottage is probably one of the most awe-inspiring to be found anywhere in the UK. Whilst the wonders of digital photography will undoubtedly speak for themselves, it is virtually impossible to describe in words, the astounding vista and ever changing canvas that can be viewed from this cosy little Cornish cottage.

Dating back over 150 years, Cove Cottage nestles in the very heart of this National Trust owned peninsula (only one of two in the country) and looks out over the majestic Brisons Rocks and the vast expanse of the mighty Atlantic Ocean beyond. Set in just under two acres of land, the front lawn and extensive private land sweeps down almost to the edge of Priest's Cove which is still home to a number of local fisherman who land their daily catch of fresh fish and Cornish Blue Lobster perfect for that al fresco supper on the patio as the sun slips over the horizon! The property has up to now been in private ownership and is now available for holiday use. Cape Cornwall (The definition of a Cape is a projectoray of land where two currents or Oceans meet) remains totally unspoilt and is a Mecca for coastal walkers, golfers, anglers, bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts in general.

Recently extended to provide a west facing garden room, the property is now available to rent all year round. The provision of full central heating, an additional wood burning stove and double glazing throughout means that you can be extremely warm and snug in the winter as you watch the full force of the Atlantic as it smashes into the cape and the surrounding cliffs below. The pretty market town of St. Just is a short drive with its plethora of pubs, butchers, bakers, shops and galleries. Guests at Cove Cottage can also take advantage of temporary membership at the Cape Cornwall Golf Resort (walking distance) which offers a range of amenities such as golf (obviously!) an indoor swimming pool, gym, bar and restaurant. Cove Cottage is a picturesque little cottage in a stunning location but it will not be a secret for long  so book early!

COAST – PENZANCE – SLEEPS EIGHT

Three words sum up this newly constructed, architect designed house with panoramic views over the entire crescent of Mount’s Bay – stunning, sumptuous and most definitely luxurious! Coast is a beautifully appointed four bedroom property which has recently been completed in time for the ensuing season and boasts a host of luxurious benefits including a 50 inch plasma screen television, a basement “rumpus room” for the children (or adults!) complete with table tennis table, sofa and flat screen TV. Sensor and fibre optic lighting in the bathrooms for those romantic evenings! Under floor heating throughout with individual room controls and even an Astroturf lawn on the rear garden for uninterrupted sun bathing and plenty of Gin & Tonics! The owners of Coast - in conjunction with a local architect – set out to design and build a light, spacious and contemporary holiday home that meets the demanding criteria set by today’s discerning visitor and they have certainly succeeded. The house - which sits in a south facing position within a quiet residential area between Penzance and Newlyn - has been cleverly designed with bi fold sliding glass doors and Juliet balconies to the master bedroom and lounge. This feature enables guests to take full advantage of the glorious views over Mounts Bay which encompass the Lizard Peninsula, Porthlevan, Perranuthnoe, St Michael’s Mount, Marazion and Penzance to the east; and to the west lie the villages of Newlyn and Mousehole. The central location of Coast is a major benefit as a five minute walk will bring guests into the heart of Newlyn village where you can sample some of the finest fresh fish and seafood in the world! Five minutes in the other direction and you can walk along the promenade seafront to Penzance and the plethora of shops, top quality restaurants, pubs and galleries of this bustling regional hub. Air and sea links to the Isles of Scilly together with main line train connections to London are a short distance from the property. Coast is a fabulous and beautifully crafted holiday home in a much sought after location. It is therefore ideal for two families who wish to holiday together or for a smaller family who require additional space - but be warned! – It will not be a secret for long so book now to avoid disappointment!

Oates, who began his working life underground at the age of 12 in the local Balleswidden Mine. A mine captain by the time he was 23, he emigrated to South Africa to seek his fortune. After only three years as a Mining Engineer with the De Beers Diamond Company, he was invited onto the board of directors eventually taking over as chairman of De Beers from Cecil Rhodes. During the early 1900s he returned to his beloved west Cornwall, where he built Porthledden House, the magnificent 21 bedroom mansion that currently stands like a sentinel guarding the Cape. He died in South Africa, stranded by the First World War and a memorial to him can be found in the local church in St.Just.The Cape is in fact now owned by food giant Heinz and has been given to the National Trust in perpetuity. It still plays a major part in local life, especially Priests Cove to the left hand side of the Cape with its small fishing community and home to the annual swim from the cove to the Brisons Rocks, approximately one mile from the shoreline. At low tide in the cove, one can still see the outline of the miners sea bath, a chilly reminder of the days when workers would emerge from the local mine and wash in the sea in all weathers before going home

Customer Review

We had a lovely time at this beautiful cottage. We enjoyed the stunning views and watched the seals and array of birds at the watchpoint, even saw a small group of 6ish bottlenose dolphins. Lovely coastal walk to Lands End. We had a wonderful time!
