What more could you ask for from a holiday property which has been beautifully renovated, sits 500 yards from the stunning Cornish coastal path and is only a two minute stroll to one of the best pubs in the area which serves imaginative local food and brilliant Cornish beer! - Chy-Cornish is just that! (Chy is Cornish for home)
Located in the small hamlet of Truthwall which is situated between the larger communities of St. Just and Pendeen, the house is just yards from the majestic and now sadly derelict, engine house of the Wheal Owles Tin Mine and within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wheal Owles mine was closed down after a major disaster in 1893 which claimed the lives of twenty local men and whose bodies still remain in the flooded shafts as a permanent memorial. This deceptively spacious and pretty property has recently been completely renovated and benefits from a large twin bedroom with en-suite shower room on the ground floor. The remainder of the accommodation is on the first floor including an additional double bedroom with en suite shower room, kitchen and living space. Decorated throughout in warm and neutral colours and furnished to a very comfortable standard, Chy Cornish is ideally suited to those guests who enjoy exploring the truly breathtaking scenery that this western tip of England has to offer either by walking along the craggy cliff tops, travelling around by car, public transport or just sitting on one of the many blue flag beaches that adorn this beautiful Cornish peninsula. The tiny village of Botallack is proudly known for its disused mines, specifically the famous Crown Mine which is precariously perched on the cliff face and is perhaps one of the most frequently photographed sites in all West Cornwall. This remarkable mine was built so that the incline shaft extended 2000 feet under the sea and miners regularly told of working underground in storms and hearing the boulders crashing above their heads as they were picked up by the mountainous seas and thrown against the jagged cliffs.
Historic documents claim that there were in excess of 80 mines within two miles of Botallack, none more famous then the Wheal Owles Mine. Closed down after a major flood in 1893, the mine and shafts were sealed together with the bodies of twenty local men who drowned as a permanent memorial. In a large part due to the Crown Mine, Botallack and the surrounding area has recently become a 'World Heritage Site', a rare honour and one it shares with the likes of the Taj Mahal and the ancient pyramids of Egypt.
Rent a holiday cottage in Botallack and get access to some of Cornwall's best views and attractions, from a beautiful cottage.
