  A very pretty little granite cottage which is located on the edge of the South West Coastal Path and just 500 yards from one of the most photographed and spectacular views in Cornwal. the magnificent Crown Mines of Botallack which perch precariously on the cliff side! - Dating back over 150 years, this enchanting and romantic cottage has recently been renovated to a very comfortable standard and is literally bursting with character from the narrow little staircase to the low ceiling beams and from the huge granite fireplace to the delightful and well stocked, private rear garden.

  Decorated in warm and neutral colours, the owners are mindful of today's exacting standards and have tried to think of every possible element to ensure that guests enjoy every single aspect of this charming property. Apart from the numerous benefits already mentioned! - Hawthorn Cottage is a perfect holiday retreat for those guests who either wish to totally switch off and relax in the garden with a BBQ or those with endless energy who wish to bring their pets and literally walk for miles along the cliff tops and surrounding fields and enjoy some of the finest and breathtaking scenery in the world!  Hawthorn Cottage really does have something to offer every guest throughout the year and if you don't wish to cook every night, the Queens Arms gastro pub in the village extends a very warm welcome to all guests, serves excellent food and is just a short stroll (or stagger) from the cottage!   Entrance through rear conservatory/dining area: Dining table and chairs with double doors overlooking the garden. Lounge: Sofa seating, Granite feature fireplace with wood burning stove (logs supplied), slate floor, flat screen TV, DVD and video player and small music system, numerous games, puzzles and books. Kitchen: An eclectic mix of free standing and fitted units, slate floor, electric double oven cooker, large fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, small table and chairs. Stairs to first floor: Bedroom One: Pretty south facing room with double bed and partial sea views over the garden. Additional furniture and extensive hanging/storage space. Bedroom Two: 3ft Bunks (only suitable for children and teenagers) and garden views. Shower Room: Thermostatic shower with cubicle. Hand Basin, W.C.

  The tiny village of Botallack is proudly known for its disused mines, specifically the famous Crown Mine which is precariously perched on the cliff face and is perhaps one of the most frequently photographed sites in all West Cornwall. This remarkable mine was built so that the incline shaft extended 2000 feet under the sea and miners regularly told of working underground in storms and hearing the boulders crashing above their heads as they were picked up by the mountainous seas and thrown against the jagged cliffs.

  Historic documents claim that there were in excess of 80 mines within two miles of Botallack, none more famous then the Wheal Owles Mine. Closed down after a major flood in 1893, the mine and shafts were sealed together with the bodies of twenty local men who drowned as a permanent memorial. In a large part due to the Crown Mine, Botallack and the surrounding area has recently become a 'World Heritage Site', a rare honour and one it shares with the likes of the Taj Mahal and the ancient pyramids of Egypt.
